Nomenclature The Systema Porifera (Cook & Bergquist, 2002) attributed authorship of the subfamily Phyllospongiinae to Bergquist, Sorokin & Karuso, 1999, but they overlooked that Keller (1889) already erected a taxon of the family level to accomodate Phyllospongia and related genera. Authorship is here assigned to Keller, 1889 (see under Phyllospongiinae). If Phyllospongiinae remains assigned to the family Thorectidae, then this name is threatened by Phyllospongiidae Keller, 1889 as an older name. Thorectinae can then be maintained as a subfamilial name. [details]
