Grammatical gender Although Schmidt gave no explanation, the meaning of the name Leiodermatium may be translated as 'smooth skinned' (sponge). The gender of Leiodermatium is likely neuter because of the Latin -ium suffix (based on the Greek -ion suffix). The name lynceus of the type species is masculine, but this is almost certainly a noun, as Lynceus was one of the Argonauts from Ancient Greece, famous for his sharp sight.  [details]
