Identification According to Topsent (1933: 3) Lamarck's (1814) record of Spongia palmata included both Isodictya palmata (Ellis & Solander, 1786) and an Australian species he considered conspecific with Ridley & Dendy's record of Chalina palmata. Hooper & Wiedenmayer (1994: 93) considered this to belong to their concept of Callyspongia (Callyspongia) ramosa (Gray, 1843), which is a junior homonym and was replaced by its senior synonym, Callyspongia (Callyspongia) nuda (Ridley, 1884).
