From editor or global species database
Authority Poléjaeff was the first author to formally coin the term Syconidae, but earlier authors, Lieberkühn (1859: 528) and Haeckel (1872: 232) used the collective term 'Sycones', which may be construed as prior use of the family name. It is unexplained why Dendy (1892 and later) decided to use Sycettidae for approximately the same family level taxon. The use of Sycettidae became in general use after the 1890's, so the Systema Porifera declared the family name Syconidae unused in the sense of ICZN Art. 23.9.1-2. [details]
