Taxonomy Current usage is Agalmatidae, but the original spelling by Brandt and many subsequent authors was Agalmidae.
The family Agalmidae, based on the genus Agalma Eschscholtz, 1825, was established by Brandt (1835); the name coming from the Greek for glory or delight. However, Poche (1914) pointed out that, because of the Greek declension of the noun, the name of the family should correctly be written as Agalmatidae, and this form has been generally used after it was adopted by Cairns et al. (1991). [details]
