Distribution This species does not occur in European waters, but is added to ERMS, because it is the parent taxon of the subspecies Syllis (Typosyllis) truncata cryptica, which is a synonym of Syllis gerlachi, and has records for Europe. [details]
Etymology The specific epithet truncata is the feminine of the Latin word truncatus, meaning 'maimed' or 'mutilated', and refers to the simple chaeta present on the dorsal side of the compound chaetae, which differs from the simple chaetae of Syllis variegata and Syllis pectinans in being truncate.
