Type locality Atlantic coast of France, Bay of Biscay, Poitou-Charentes, coasts of Noirmoutier (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 46.98º, long. -2.22º). Several authors state La Rochelle (Charente, France) as the type locality of the species, apparently based on the label associated to an existing possible holotype. However, Audouin & Milne-Edwards (1833: 224) clearly state Noirmoutier as the type locality: "Nous l'avons trouvée sur les côtes de Noirmoutier".  [details]
