Depth range Not stated by Audouin & Milne-Edwards (1833). Probably shallow water. [details]
Distribution Atlantic coast of France: Noirmoutier (Poitou-Charentes). [details]
Etymology The specific epithet brevicornis is composed by the Latin prefix brevi-, meaning 'short', and the Latin adjective cornis, meaning 'horned', and refers to the short antennae and palps: "La tête (fig. 7), ne présente rien de remarquable; les antennes mitoyennes (c) [i.e. antennae; note by the editor] sont petites, côniques et très écartées l'une de l'autre; les antennes externes (d) [i.e. palps; note by the editor] sont également assez courtes, et formées comme celles des Néréides, de deux articles, l'un basilaire très-gros, l'autre terminal et fort petit" (Audouin & Milne-Edwards, 1833: 223). [details]
Habitat Not stated by Audouin & Milne-Edwards (1833). [details]
Taxonomy Moved to different genus (Namalycastis). [details]
Type locality Atlantic coast of France, Bay of Biscay, Poitou-Charentes, coasts of Noirmoutier (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 46.98º, long. -2.22º). Several authors state La Rochelle (Charente, France) as the type locality of the species, apparently based on the label associated to an existing possible holotype. However, Audouin & Milne-Edwards (1833: 224) clearly state Noirmoutier as the type locality: "Nous l'avons trouvée sur les côtes de Noirmoutier". [details]
Type material Possible holotype deposited at the Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, POLY TYPE 1370. [details]
