Authority Leach's Nereis margaritacea may be suspected to be a usage of Montagu's (1804) Nereis margarita, but appears also to include Leach's own observations. There was no figure of Montagu's species but Leach has a figure, although it may not be original as he copied Montagu's figure of Amphitrite volutacornis (a sabellid) [details]

Synonymy Listed as a synonym of Perinereis cultrifera (Grube, 1840) in Hartman Catalogue. This is clearly not possible, as Nereis margaritacea is senior, unless Leach's name is regarded as disused (prevailing usage). [details]
