Prionospio ockelmanni sp. n. is described from the Øresund and the northern part of the Swedish west-coast. A small species with three pairs of branchiae, P. ockelmanni differs from all known members of the genus in having branchiae from setiger three, not setiger two. The relationship of the species to other members of the genus is discussed.
