Type species Niewiadomska (2002) lists Amphistoma longicolle, as Cardiocephaloides longicolis, as the type-species of Cardiocephaloides, but the genus was monotypic when erected by Sudarkiov (1959), with Cardiocephalus brandesii, as Cardiocephaloides brandesii, listed at the type and only species.
