Nomenclature Fauchald (1974:257) reviews the complicated history of generic synonyms in Sphaerodoridae. [details]
Nomenclature Malmgren (1867:79) used "Spaerodoridae" [sic, in capitals with ligature ae] for the family name for Ephesia gracilis [now Sphaerodorum gracilis (Rathke, 1843)] of which he gives a full description. No other taxa are recorded. Presumably the spelling without 'h' was a printing lapsus. He apparently included Sphaerodorum and Pollicita as junior to Ephesia. [details]
