synonymy The synonymy of this species with X. pygmaea has been proposed by a number of authors, specifically because the two species are very similar in size. These two species are however different from each other in the number and the position of the cephal bristles. [details]

synonymy La mise en synonymie de cette espèce et de X. pygmaea a effectivement été proposé par certains auteurs, notamment en raison de la similitude de taille des deux taxons. Les deux espèces sont néanmoins différentes par le nombre et la disposition des grandes soies céphaliques: 5 paires chez H. flandrensis, dont deux implantées à la base mëme des tentacules, 2 seulement, antérieures, chez H. pygmaea. H. pygmaea a un corps aux côtés plus parallèles; un caractère peut-être moins significativf, puisqu'il varie selon l'âge des individus: les proportions des organes adhésifs par rapport à la longueur totale du corps diffèrent dant les deux espèces.
