Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyang Sihao". Year of discovery: 2009. History: Named after Wanhu (17th century AD - years of birth and death unknown), a Chinese scientist during the Ming Dynasty. In fact, Wanhu was the title of his official position. His name was Tao Chengdao.

Additional information (en): This feature is elongated, extending E-W, and has a steepness of 8 to 15° and two peaks. Wanhu drove a self-made rocket, holding two large kites on both hands. He attempted to take off to explore the space through using the power of the rocket thrust and kites. Unfortunately, the rocket exploded and Wanhu died. The International Astronomical Union named a crater on the moon as Wanhu Crater to commemorate Wanhu's braveness as a space pioneer. Minimum depth (m): 1215. Maximum depth (m): 2174.
