Notes |
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1997. History: Named after the Japanese novelist Shoyo Tsubouchi (1859-1935), during the Meiji to Taisho periods of Japan. He made a complete translation into Japanese of the plays of William Shakespeare. At that time, it was common and popular for Japanese writers to be called by their first names. However, the last name Tsubouchi is used here as there exists already a feature named after the Japanese survey vessel "Shoyo", that is, Shoyo Seamount. This feature is associated with the nearby Great Writers Seamount Province. |
