GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2009. History: Named from the tanguile tree (shorea polysperma), a native tree to the Philippines. The tanguile wood is well-known for its durability and treatability, and was widely exploited for woodworks such as floorings,carpentry, furniture and ship building. It has been declared as critically endangered.
