GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Lisiguanghao". Year of discovery: 2006. History: Named from its shape as the feature looks like a finless porpoise, “Jiangtun” in Chinese. It is a protected animal which is widely spread in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangzi river. The finless porpoise has long been loved by Chinese people for its smiling facial expression, and is also known as “Smiling Angel” and “Water Panda”. |
