GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Indonesian Research Vessel R/V "Baruna Jaya VIII". Year of discovery: 2003. History: Named from its geographical position as the feature is located west of the nearby Kawio Islands. "West" translates into “Barat” in Indonesian Language (Bahasa).
