History: Named from the Mapilig (xanthostemon bracteatus Merr), aspecies of tree which is found in the Philippine provinces of Aurora, NuevaEcija, Camarines Norte, Albay, Catanduanes, Samar, Dinagat, Leyte and Surigao del Sur. The wood is used in making high quality furniture,mallets, caulking hammers and other articles requiring extremely hard andheavy, tough wood. |
