Interstitial fauna of Galapagos: XX. Halacaridae (Acari). In intertidal and upper subtidal habitats of the Galapagos Islands, 12 genera with 42 species of Halacaridae were found, viz. Rhombognathus robustus nov. spec, R. longiscutatus nov. spec., R. semireticulatus nov. spec, R. ellipticus nov. spec, R. similis nov. spec, R. heterosetosus nov. spec, Rhombognathus spec, Isobactrus asper nov. spec, Actacarus mollis nov. spec, A. uniscutatus nov. spec, A. hastatus nov. spec, Copidognathus lineatus nov. spec, C. gibboides nov. spec, C. pauciporus nov. spec, C. lepidus nov. spec, C scitus nov. spec., C. bairdibairdi Newell, 1947, C. grandiculus nov. spec, C. tuberipes nov. spec, C. peregrinus nov. spec, C. gracilis Viets, 1936, C. guttatus nov. spec, C. tenuirostris nov. spec, Copidognathus spec. A, Arhodeopoms bonairensis (Viets, 1936), A. bucculentus nov. spec, Agauopsis ornata (Lohmann, 1893),A. denticulatus nov. spec., Agauopsis spec, Atelopsalis aliger nov. spec, Acarochelopodia aduncispina nov. spec, A. cuneifera nov. spec, Scaptognathus pauciporus nov. spec, Sc. gibbosus nov. spec, Scaptognathides bicornis nov. spec, Simognathus similis nov. spec, S. disparilis nov. spec, Acaromantis subasper nov. spec, A. fastigatus nov. spec, A. armatus nov. spec, A. punctulus nov. spec, and A. grandiculus nov. spec. Four species are known from the Atlantic: Copidognathus bairdi bairdi, C. gracilis, and Arhodeopoms bonairensis have been found in the American Tropical Atlantic region, in the Caribbean and off Florida, Agauopsis ornata off Bermuda and Cape Verde. Several species are closely related to others, described from the Southeast Pacific and the South and North Atlantic. There is no evidence of speciation within the Galapagos Archipelago.
