Abstract
The present document contains the results of a planning workshop held at Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory, University of the West Indies, Jamaica, in November 1985. This workshop, sponsored by Unesco and the National Science Foundation (USA), was an activity organized within the framework of Caribbean Coastal Marine Productivity (CARICOMP), a multinational and multidisciplinary approach to research, training, and management in a tropical regional sea environment.Discussions, during the workshop, focused on factors influencing biological productivity in the Caribbean coastal zone, and resulted in a framework for the development of a regional research programme to investigate this subject.
