THe RN often operate in remote areas and it is hoped that by collecting this sort of data the RN may be able to contribute to a better scientific understanding of cetacean distributions/ breeding areas/ migration routese etc. By ensuring that RN personnel keep watch for cetaceans this helps them to comply with current risk mitigation measures.
