Nederland is in 1995 met Vlaanderen overeengekomen de vaarweg van de Westerschelde te verruimen. Deze verruiming, kortweg verruiming 48’/43’ genoemd, houdt in dat schepen met een maximale diepgang van 48 voet in één getij Antwerpen kunnen bereiken en schepen met een maximale diepgang van 43 voet in één getij de Westerschelde kunnen afvaren. Schepen tot een diepgang van 38 voet kunnen onafhankelijk van het getij de Westerschelde op- en afvaren (1 voet is 0,3 meter). Nederland heeft tevens besloten de ontwikkelingen van de Westerschelde na de verruiming tien jaar te volgen met als doel ‘de omvang van de gevolgen van de verdieping voor de Westerschelde en het mondingsgebied te leren kennen en vast te leggen en het beheer daarop te kunnen aanpassen’. Dit rapport is de evaluatie van deze tien jaar MOnitoring VErruiming (MOVE).
