Description
  1. Chimaera monstrosa, Linne, 1758. Atlantische Oceaan. – Lengte: 147 mm. – Volgens M. J. A. Grieg.
  2. Hydrolagus colliei, Lay en Bennet, 1849. Stille Oceaan (Noord). – Lengte: 150 mm. – Volgens M. B. Dean.
  3. Callorhynchus antarcticus, synoniem van Callorhinchus callorynchus, Lacepede, 1798. Stille Oceaan (Zuid). – Lengte: 160 mm. – Volgens M. O. Jaekel (vervolledigd).
  4. Cestracion galeatus, synoniem van Heterodontus galeatus, Gunther, 1870. Australië. – Lengte: 120 mm. – Volgens M. E. R. Waite. Evolutie van de Chimaeridae. Reductie van de laterale vleugels van het kokkelhoornvlies van het ei, als: 1. de regressie van de staartvin (caudale vin bij Chimaera); 2. atrofie van het rostraal kraakbeen (maximum bij Chimaera); 3. de uitrekking en vermindering van de tweede rugvin (vooral bij Chimaera); 4. de ethologie (kust --> diepzee); 5. de biostratigrafie (schelpfossielen, van het type Callorhynchus); toont dat de evolutie van de Chimaeridae plaatsvindt in de richting van Callorhynchus naar Chimaera, via Hydrolagus.
