Description Op 08.02.2012 strandde een levende potvis (Physeter macrocephalus) aan op het strand van het strandnatuurreservaat 'Baai van Heist'. Het dier stierf rond 10:30 AM. Er kwam een ware volkstoeloop op gang om een glimp van dit dier op te vangen. Naar schatting 10.000 mensen bezochten de potvis, die "Theofiel Degroote" werd gedoopt (een verwijzing naar een voormalige ijslandvisser uit Heist). De potvis werd in de namiddag door wetenschappers van de Universiteit Luik en Universiteit Gent ontleed en stalen werden verzameld voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek. (Heist, 08.02.2012)
