Etymology [The species was named after the zoologist Carl Theodor von Siebold, who also co-edited the Zeitschrift für Wissenschaftliche Zoologie.] [details]
Spelling The species name E. sieboldtii represents the genitive case of the Latinized name Siebold derived from the person's name Siebold, a well-known zoologist at that time. This is in accordance with ICZN (Articles 31.1.2. and 31.1.3.). The name E. sieboldii has been used consistently ever since, so this original writing with -ii has to be preserved (ICZN, Article 33.4. Use of -i for -ii and vice versa, and other alternative spellings, in subsequent spellings of species-group names.). [details]
Taxonomic remark The species was originally published with a capital letter, which does not agree with the ICZN (Article 28.). Correction of the spelling to a small letter does not require a new author of a species (ICZN, Article 50.4.). Therefore, the same species with the same author would appear twice in WoRMS, one written with a capital letter, the other one with a small letter. It was decided to provide only the name with the small letter and to add this comment in order to explain the situation. [details]
