Zelinka (1928, pp. 354-355) described Centrophyes biserratus, on pp. 355-356 Centrophyes biserratus larva secunda, and on pp. 356-357 Centrophyes biserratus larva tertia. Since the different life history stages were described under the same name, all subsequent literature referred to just one name, e.g. Higgins (1983), Adrianov & Malakhov (1999), Neuhaus (2013).

Zelinka (1928, pp. 354-355) described Centrophyes biserratus, on pp. 355-356 Centrophyes biserratus larva secunda, and on pp. 356-357 Centrophyes biserratus larva tertia. Since the different life history stages were described under the same name, all subsequent literature referred to just one name, e.g. Higgins (1983), Adrianov & Malakhov (1999), Neuhaus (2013).

Etymology [The species name was derived from Latin bi, two, and from Latin serratus, serrated, and referred to the two anlagen of spinose processes/spines on the terminal segment.] [details]
