Taxonomy The Leptoecia-like species have had various generic placements. Paxton (1986: 30) included Parhyalinoecia Hartmann-Schröder, 1975 under Leptoecia. Orensanz (1990: 55) proposed to include in Leptoecia all "known abranchiate Hyalinoeciea-like forms with reduced palps" but he actually has no junior generic synonyms under Leptoecia. Budaeva (2012: 50) included under Leptoecia the genera Parhyalinoecia Hartmann-Schröder, 1975, Neonuphis Kucheruk, 1978, and part of the species of Paronuphis Ehlers, 1887 (noting the Paronuphis type is a Hyalinoecia), and part of the species under misspelling Paraonuphis of Kucheruk). According to Budaeva (2012: 46) Leptoecia in 2012 included six species, namely (original names) Leptoecia abyssorum Chamberlin, 1919; Hyalinoecia benthaliana McIntosh, 1885; Parhyalinoecia apalpata Hartmann-Schröder, 1975; Paraonuphis ultraabyssalis Kucheruk, 1977; Neonuphis oxyrhinchus Kucheruk, 1978; Leptoecia vivipara Orensanz, 1990 and Leptoecia midatlantica Budaeva, 2012.  [details]
