Abstract
As far as possible a clear distinction has been made between theoretical equilibrum concepts, including Eh and pH, and the natural (open) systems. A short fundamental description of the equilibrum model for a closed water system having been made, this model is extended for proton reactions and redox reactions. By this extension we come to the definition of the activity pH, the redoxpotential Eh and the corresponding Eh-pH diagram. A rough description of the open thermodynamic system has been given and illustrated by two examples.
