Abstract
This study is the eighth component of the ‘Research on the environmental effects of the SIGMA plan: Effects of dredgings and harbour expansion on the environment’

The project follows the developments in two mesocosm experiments and at Lippenbroek on experiment is located at Kruibeke, a second on the UIA-campus in Wilrijk. In Kruibeke they monitor the influence of pollution in flooding areas, whereas in Wilrijk the influence of the tide on the increase of sheer is assessed. The input of contaminants is monitored as well. In Lippenbroek the development of vegetation is followed and related to the environmental conditions.
