Abstract
The tidal marsches of the Scheldt estuary are salt, brackish and freshwater marshes. The geomorphology of these marshes is changing rapidly due to erosion and sedimentation processes. The aims of this project are:
the execution of an intensive measuring program on a tidal salt, brackish and freshwater marsh, to get an insight in the actual sediment dynamics and morpho- dynamics of these marshes. We expect that the processes are different in those 3 marsh types;
The development of a quantitative model, which can predict the sedimentation and erosion patterns in the tidal marshes;
The collection of historical sedimentation and erosion data on a large number of tidal marshes along the Scheldt estuary. This data will be used to evaluate the developed model.
