Abstract
Within the scope of this project a biomonitoring program is presented for the Upper Zeeschelde. The resulting data will be used to describe the ecosystem changes and to estimate the importance of the river as a migration route. In addition, fish sampling starts in controlled overflow areas along the Zeeschelde. The question arises wether these areas act during controlled flood regimes as a nursery or as a feeding ground for migrating species. In a final case study the actual situation of the river lamprey is studied in detail.
