Abstract
The First ODINCARSA Training Course in Marine Data Management was held in Guayaquil, Ecuador, between 20 and 23 May 2002, hosted by the Instituto Oceanográfico de la Armada del Ecuador (INOCAR). The workshop was attended by students from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, México, Panama and Perú. Lectures were provided by invited resource persons from the United States of America and the IOC. The Workshop programme was based on the IOC Ocean Teacher capacity building tool- an extensive collation of documents on marine data, formats, software, program and data management procedures, manuals, protocol, and associated tutorials. The workshop participants formulated a set intersessional goals and assignments to be accomplished before the second session in this curriculum.
