Abstract
This report summarizes the events of the Third Scientific POEM Workshop held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, at Harvard University, 29 May-2 June 1989. A new phenomenology of the Eastern Mediterranean has been defined by the dataset of the five general surveys of POEM- Phase I. This comprehensive phenomenology is leading to a new and dynamically complex picture of the basin general circulation. The objective of the workshop was to present the results of POEM-Phase I to the international oceanographic community through three days of presentation at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
