Abstract
Report of a research on the mating of Guillemots (Uria aalge) and their behaviour on the breeding ledge. In 1976, from early May till half July, 37 animals were observed from which most were in the fifth year of life. These animals were kept in basins, covered by cages of gauze. Almost every animal showed to rest most of the time on the same place on the artificial cliffs. Some animals had two such places. During the whole period they copulated. Most animals had a partner (and some more than one) with whom they copulated more frequently and more complete. These partners can be called pairs. Most of these pairs had at least one common resting place. Pairs copulate often on their common resting place or on the males resting place. Animals that are not pairs copulate often on the resting place of the female. Two eggs are produced, both laid on a common resting place. Defense of this resting place against intruders were sporadically noticed.
