Abstract
A method for measuring ATP, ADP and AMP levels in marine sediments with a nucleotide releasing reagens was developed and compared with the Ernst Tris-extraction method. The ATP concentration on the surface sediment as well in a natural tidal flat system (NIOZ-wad) as in an artificial tidal flat system (Wadbak-zuid) was measured and ranged from 257 to 1520 ng ATP g dry sediment-1. ATP concentrations measured with the depth were compared with ETS activities. The correlation coëfficient was 0.9. Furthermore were ATP, ADP and AMP concentrations measured and the calculated Energy Charge were 0.52 and 0.85.
