Abstract
The purpose of the investigation was to get insight into the distribution of phosphorus compounds in Autumn 1973 in the Southern Bight of the North Sea and to interpret the concentration changes found by means of a mass balance. Furthermore some destruction methods for organic phosphate esters were studied. Also the phosphorous content of plankton samples, caught with a 50 and 300µm net was measured.During JONSDAP 1973 a sampling program was executed. Three cruises were carried out between September 3 and November 2. For the intervals of 28 days (Sept. 5-Oct. 3 and October 3-31) between the cruises, a phosphorus balance was calculated. To mak a mass balance it is necessary to know the advective water transport during the two periods. These were computed starting from salinity distributions and river discharge values.
