Abstract
In order to gain some information whether or not differential settling and or differential transport occurs in the Dutch Wadden Sea, a small research program was carried out. Samples were taken and identified with the help of X-ray diffraction. By a rather simple method the X-ray diagrams were compared. No exact data were obtained. The samples did not show any differential settling or transport as proposed by Whitehouse, Jeffreys and Debrecht (1960). Some differences were found, for example, between the Balgzand area and the area along the Afsluitdijk, but these differences were contradictory to what Whitehouse et al. supposed. The theories proposed by Postma (1954, 1962), Van Straeten and Kuenen (1957) could explain to some degree the results found. Also some other possibilities are given to explain the results found.
