Abstract
    Struikaster Baccharis halimifolia is een exoot van Noord- Amerikaanse origine die in de loop van de 17de eeuw in Europa geïntroduceerd is als sierplant. Deze struik is zeer geliefd bij siertelers in kustgebieden vanwege zijn tolerantie voor een zoutrijke omgeving en de grote verscheidenheid aan bodems waarop de plant kan groeien. De eerste waarneming in België dateert van 1924. Het ging om een aanplanting in de duinen van Raversijde. Sindsdien wordt de plant regelmatig in het wild waargenomen in de buurt van aangeplante exemplaren.
