Abstract
    Het roodwier Caulacanthus okamurae komt inmiddels voor in grote delen van de wereld. Het verkiest een hard substraat in het intergetijdengebied, maar komt eveneens voor in brakwater en mangroves. Het roodwier komt oorspronkelijk uit het Pacifisch gebied en zou via oestertransport in de Europese zeeën terechtgekomen zijn. In België werd Caulacanthus okamurae voor het eerst in 2011 waargenomen in de Baai van Heist, gelegen aan de oostelijke strekdam van de haven van Zeebrugge. Het wier is eerder klein en onopvallend, en kan snel over het hoofd gezien worden.
