Abstract
This guide represents the first attempt to introduce the marine benthic macroalgae of KwaZulu-Natal to a larger public. The focus is on the larger macroalgae growing in the intertidal as well as the deeper regions of the subtidal. A total of 212 species species (51 green, 31 brown and 130 red algae) are described including indication of distribution and ecology. Each species is depicted by means of colour photos and where necessary additional photographs illustrating microscopic details.
