Abstract
Cyclotella scaldensis spec. nov. is described from the freshwater tidal reaches of the Schelde estuary (Belgium/The Netherlands) where it was the dominant taxon in the spring phytoplankton community. A detailed light and electron microscopical description is given. The differences with C. meneghiniana and C. gamma, two closely related taxa, are discussed.
