Abstract
Although it is known that environmental stress influences the genetic variability of natural populations, it is not at all clear which factors are responsible for this genetic response. This study will investigate possible effects of salinity and heavy metal pollution on the genetic structure of two periwinkles, with contrasting developmental modes, along a known metal pollution and salinity gradient in the Western Scheldt estuary.
